    City Agencies

    NYC Department of Buildings (DOB): DOB enforces the City's Building Code, Electrical Code, Zoning Resolution, New York State Labor Law and New York State Multiple Dwelling Law. Main activities include performing plan examinations, issuing construction permits, inspecting properties, and licensing trades.

    NYC Business Solutions: Offers free, quick, and reliable answers to a broad range of your business questions, whether you are an entrepreneur or an on-going enterprise of any size.

    NYC Department of City Planning (DCP): DCP is responsible for the city's physical and socioeconomic planning, including land use and environmental review; preparation of plans and policies; and provision of technical assistance and planning information to government agencies, public officials, and community boards.

    NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC): Delivers the City's construction projects in an expeditious, cost-effective manner, while maintaining the highest degree of architectural, engineering, and construction quality.

    NYC Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC): Encourages economic growth in each of the five boroughs of NYC by strengthening the city's competitive position and facilitating investments that build capacity, generate prosperity and catalyze the economic vibrancy of city life as a whole.

    NYC Department of Education (DOE): A comprehensive website with critical information for parents, students, and educators regarding all matters of NYC schools. 

    City of New York Department of Environmental Protection (DEP): Operates water mains, sewers, treatment plants, and enforces the City's Noise, Air and Hazardous Materials Code.

    City of New York Department of Finance: Collects City revenues efficiently and fairly, encourages compliance with City tax and other revenue laws, values all real property in the City, provides a forum for the public to dispute tax and parking violation liability, and maintains property records.

    City of New York Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD): HPD protects the existing housing stock and expands housing options for New Yorkers as it strives to improve the availability, affordability, and quality of housing in New York City.

    New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA): NYCHA provides decent and affordable housing in a safe and secure living environment for low and moderate-income residents throughout the five boroughs.

    Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs: The Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA) promotes the full and active participation of immigrant New Yorkers in the civic, economic, and cultural life of the City.

    NYC Independent Budget Office (IBO): The IBO is a publicly funded agency dedicated to enhancing understanding of New York City's budget by providing non-partisan budgetary, economic, and policy analysis for the residents of the city and their elected officials.

    New York Industrial Retention Network (NYIRN): A city-wide not-for-profit organization that seeks to promote a diverse economy that provides opportunities for all New Yorkers by strengthening New York City's manufacturing sector, based on principles of economic and environmental justice and sustainability. 

    Mayor's Office for Industrial and Manufacturing Businesses (IMB): Retain and grow the sector's job base, execute the goals of the industrial policy, and serve as a single point of coordination for the industrial and manufacturing sector.

    NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission: Responsible for identifying and designating the City's landmarks and the buildings in the City's historic districts. The Commission also regulates changes to designated buildings.

    NYC Office of Management and Budget (OMB): Responsible for assisting the Mayor in developing and implementing the City's budget, and for advising the Mayor on policy affecting the City's fiscal stability and the effectiveness of City services.  

    NYC School Construction Authority (SCA): The SCA is the single accountable organization to plan, design, construct and report on all capital projects for the Department of Education.  The SCA regularly reviews design standards in order to construct safe, functional, durable and attractive new school buildings while containing costs.  

    Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA): The MTA network links the diverse parts of New York, giving the region efficient, reasonably priced, environmentally sound travel alternatives to gridlocked streets and highways.  The MTA is North America's largest transportation network fanning out from NYC through Long Island, southeastern New York State, and Connecticut. 

    NYC Department of Parks & Recreation (DPR): DPR operates and maintain all city-owned parks. Also, responsible for public tree plantings and maintenance.

    Port Authority of NY and NJ: The Port Authority manages and maintains the bridges, tunnels, bus terminals, airports, PATH, and seaport that are critical to the bi-state region's trade and transportation capabilities. 

    Department of Sanitation (DSNY): Provides street cleaning services, collects over 12,000 tons of residential and institutional refuse and recyclables daily.

    NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS): SBS promotes the development and economic well-being of small businesses through targeted services that leverage government, private, and community resources and contacts. SBS also provides workforce development services.

    NYC Department of Transportation (DOT): DOT manages much of the City's transportation infrastructure including streets, highways, bridges, and waterways.

    NYC Department of Youth & Community Development DYCD): Develops, coordinates, and implements youth programs and activities.

    State Agencies

     

    New York Department of State:  Defends the public's safety, protects and develops a sustainable environment, strengthens local communities, and serves the business community.  The Office of Business and Licensing Services interacts extensively with the state's business community.  The Division of Corporations, State Records, and the Uniform Commercial Code, the Division of Cemeteries, the Division of Licensing Services, and the Division of Administrative Rules are all housed in this Office.

     

    State of NY Dormitory Authority: Provides financing and construction services to public and private universities, not-for-profit healthcare facilities and other institutions which serve the public good.

    Empire State Development Corporation: New York State's lead economic development agency which works to encourage economic investment and prosperity by working closely with New York businesses to: identify creative solutions to challenging problems, generate enhanced opportunities for growth, and help them achieve their uniquely important, short and long term goals.

    New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC): It's three main functions are natural resource management, environmental quality protection and the promotion of public health, safety and recreation. 

    New York State Department of Labor: Workforce NY Supports the economic interest of the people and businesses in New York State. We connect people to jobs, assist the unemployed, develop workplace skills, and protect the public and the workforce.

    New York State Department of Taxation and Finance- Empire Zones Tax Incentives: Describes the numerous tax incentives and exemptions available for qualifying businesses located within an Empire Zone.

    Federal Agencies

    USA.gov: The U.S. government's official web portal with tailored online resource information and services for citizens, businesses, nonprofits, federal employees, and visitors to the United States.

    U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development: Brownfields Economic Development Initiative (BEDI)  A key competitive grant program that HUD administers to stimulate and promote economic and community development.  BEDI is designed to assist cities with the redevelopment of abandoned, idled and underused industrial and commercial facilities where expansion and redevelopment is burdened by real or potential environmental contamination.

    U.S. Department of Commerce: Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) Promotes a better understanding of the U.S. economy by providing the most timely, relevant, and accurate economic accounts data in an objective and cost-effective manner. The BEA produces the gross domestic product (GDP), balance pf payments, state personal income, input-output accounts, and other economic statistics.

    U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA): Works for a cleaner, healthier environment and leads the nation's environmental science, research, education and assessment efforts.  The EPA develops and enforces regulations, offers financial assistance, performs environmental research, sponsors voluntary partnerships and programs, educates on environmental issues and publishes information. 

    U.S. Department of Labor: Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) The principal fact-finding agency for the Federal Government in the broad field of labor economics and statistics.  The BLS is an independent national statistical agency that collects, processes, analyzes, and disseminate essential statistical data.

    FedStats: Offers a full range of official statistical information published by more than 100 Federal agencies and made easily accessible to the public.  Tracks economic and population trends, education, health care costs, aviation safety, foreign trade, energy use, farm production, and more.
